"The late Dick Birch, the visionary who founded the friendly eco-resort Small Hope Bay Lodge, built the Androsia Batik factory nearly 30 years ago. Using Indonesian techniques, Birch and three workers dyed fabric in old bathtubs at the lodge ... Their unique designs incorporate the shells, birds, flowers, and fish of Andros and are hand-printed in brilliant jewel-like colors that stay bright for decades. Androsia fabrics are worn by locals, taken home by tourists, and favored by interior decorators who mix and match the bright colors and patterns for the ultimate in Caribbean style".
